How To Have A Family Camping Trip To Remember
Camping may not be everyone’s idea of a good time, but a family camping trip can make for a truly memorable vacation if everyone is eager to try it.
The thing to remember about family camping trips is that everyone will be living right on top of each other for the duration of the trip. You may think you do this at home, but it is far from the same thing.
You may well be able to get a tent that will sleep six to eight people, and has zipped off bedroom compartments so everyone has their privacy, but there is only a thin layer of material between sections. It’s hard to escape other family members if you want a bit of peace and quiet, so you may want to buy two smaller tents instead if you are willing to give the teenagers some responsibility.
An Experience To Remember
Family camping can certainly provide a vacation to remember, so make sure you take your camera, plenty of film or digital memory cards, and a camcorder as well if you have access to one. Don’t leave it unlocked though – either keep it safely tucked away in your car, or keep it with you at all times.
Be Prepared
Whenever we plan a family vacation, we always have an idyllic idea of how wonderful it will be. We never seem to remember that it can also be stressful - especially after a long journey.
Family camping trips are no different. That’s why it can often work well to forget about normal bedtime rules and other things you’d normally demand at home. Every family member is on vacation, so it won’t hurt if the kids have a late bedtime now and then.
The main advantage of family camping trips is the amount of fresh air you will get. Make the most of it by planning day trips and activities that take advantage of the outdoors. Cycling, walking and exploring are all activities that are enjoyed by most people, so pack up your backpack and take the family out for some healthy exercise.
If you have kids and they are old enough and responsible enough to go out on their own, make sure you both have walkie-talkies or cell phones so you can contact each other in case of emergency.
In short, family camping trips can be enjoyable and free from stress for all the family, so long as everyone has some freedom to have a good time.
