Compact Camping Trailers: For Those Who Want Their Cake And Eat It, Too
Although there are people who find it hard to understand why you would want to camp with most of the amenities of civilization about you, sometimes the only way you can get to see the outdoors is by using compact camping trailers. If you want to camp in winter, they are pretty much a necessity. Compact camping trailers are also good for those who have to do a lot of traveling to fairs, conventions or festivals. If you spend a lot of time camping, are infirm or on the road a lot, then you should consider compact camping trailers rather than staying at hotels.
How Compact
There are many light compact camping trailers that can be towed by just about any car. One of the most popular kinds of compact camping trailers are called a “teardrop trailer”, which are kind of shaped like a teardrop on its side. Many compact camping trailers offer not just shelter and a bed, but also cooking facilities. They’re a very little home on wheels. The big advantage is that you can sleep on a mattress rather than on the ground. For some people, they can’t risk trying to sleep on the ground.
Additional Features
Compact camping trailers can come with lots of bells and whistles, if you can afford them. Some additional features can be air conditioning, roof rack and a television. Keep in mind how often you can charge up any separate batteries or generators if they are required. Some of these extras can be run from your car’s battery, but do you really want to risk draining it to watch American Idol? But even the basic models will cost you six figures. Consider getting a loan.
Folding Camping Trailers
Another option are the new folding compact camping trailers that are now out on the market. They are sort of like the Ikea cabinet of compact camping trailers. They are often made of a wood frame, a metal tow bar, plastic siding, all stuck on wheels. Depending on the size and brand, some things will indeed fold up or out, such as a side porch. Usually they are already put together, but sometimes some DIY is required. Sadly, you can’t fold them up small enough to stick in your backpack. That would be called a tent. And having a tent kind of defeats the purpose of having a compact camping trailer, doesn’t it?
